Soon, Plates, and the mix for 3-11-16

I’ve lived in Minnesota too long to let my hope bloom this early. I say this because as of this very keystroke, it is sunny and 55F outside. Let me assure you that the potential for real snowfall exists for another 45 days. There is no snow so heavy as that in April that has crushed your hopes of Spring.

As of yesterday I am pleased to say that a project that started in the 1980s for me has concluded. In 1986 I found a license plate along the side of the road on our family vacation to Alaska. This started a long term low energy obsession. Once people learned I was collecting license plates, folks would pick them up for me at flea markets or give me their old car plates. My Aunt Elaine, for reasons that still escape me, was first and foremost in this effort. I also became the repository of all the old farm plates from my grandparents and aunts/uncles. Yesterday I put the plate for Hawaii up in the garage with the rest of them and can happily say I have all the states and all but one Canadian province bringing the total in the collection to 126. It’s very satisfying.

This week’s effort brings us to Audience Participation Number 5, which is a continuation of last week’s theme on urban/city songs.
