To wrap up last week’s post for the curious: It appears that kiddo had a case of the Sometimes Kids Just Barf.
This week in TV viewing: Yes, I watch TV occasionally. The TV I watch is always old because I don’t care one iota about keeping up or anything being ruined by spoilers. So this week I finally got around to watching the singular appearance of the 8Th Doctor. That’s right! The 1996 American made TV movie of Dr Who. I’m 2/3rds of the way through the episode and two things are dominant in my assessment. First is my steep and bitter disappointment that the single time Americans made a Dr Who story the very first thing that happens to the Doctor is that he gets shot. I mean for fuck’s sake. It’s such a terribly stereotypical and yet completely American response to anything beloved. Second, and happier, is that I’m enjoying Paul McGann’s performance. It’s a shame he wasn’t involved longer. Will Sasso makes an appearance and that was fun.
In music ramblings: On Monday I fell down a rabbit hole whereby I bounced from track to track of a very specific subgenre or music moment that was both amusing as it was appalling: Electro-dance covers of 80s hits. It started by finding a legitimate remix of “Missionary Man” by the Eurhythmics and then it spiraled out of control into such club covers of songs like “Out of Touch” by Hall & Oates, “Cruel Summer” by Bananarama, and “Died In Your Arms” by The Cutting Crew. None of those need any kind of remake but there they are. I stopped this train when I got to Boston’s “More Than A Feeling 2006” and what one can only call a clumsy take on “Sweet Child O Mine”. This was a big movement in 2006 for whatever reason. Almost every song was from that year. I’m flush with iTunes cash so I might just make a mix of them if I can endure that much stupid fun mixed with the after party self-loathing.Embed from Getty Images
