The Onion On My Internet Belt

This week has been rough. There has been an alignment of factors. First and foremost is that my niece is currently in the hospital. Sophie has a genetic disorder and is a special needs kiddo. One of the issues she faces is repertory problems. He’s currently fighting viral pneumonia and has been intubated. We are all hoping this won’t last for more than a couple days. Everything else is but a small pebble in the shoe by comparison.

In other news I did ride the Ironman in spite of the deplorable conditions. The high temp for the day was 40F, the average wind speed was 21 mph, and the Twin Cities received almost two inches of rain in the 24 hours centered on the ride. I caught about the only break in the rain and did the shortest loop, 15 miles, in an hour and five minutes. I got rained on for about two of those miles and only saw ten other riders on the route. Rode the last 60% with another guy. One of the things I really like about this ride is how easy it is to make friends on the road. I never got his name but I know he owns a 1970 Fiat, bought his steel Nishiki second hand, and had been a volunteer medic on the ride for ten years. 2900 riders pre-registered, 1200 rode. Glad I went, glad I did the short route. Hoping for better weather for the MS Ride next weekend.

Still smiling, cold, wind, rain and all. Post ride for the Minnesota Ironman 2014.

April is over and with it National Poetry Month. I only missed two days of writing poems. I didn’t post them all, but the ones I did are all available here. To read them pick “Funkomatic” from the drop down author list. If you venture that deep, any and all feedback is welcome.

In a conversation last night I was accused of abusing the (nearly) unlimited size afforded by the digital distribution media to go beyond the pale with the length of these mixes. While there is some truth to this claim, and it is also true that this mix is the longest by far that I’ve publish (clocking in at 1 hour 38 minutes), that time is still shy of the 100 minute tapes that used to be my standard of use. I’ll be returning to the standard rough hour again soon.

  1. Getting caught up on your blog (and a bunch of others). If I had seen this earlier I wouldn’t have had to ask you about your niece!

You look less silly in a bike helmet than I do.
